Dolly Parton received some backlash last month at the 2017 Emmy Awards after Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, co-stars in the 1980 comedy 9 to 5, insulted President Trump in their speech.
Tomlin and Fonda took digs at President Trump, calling him a “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.” While Parton didn’t actually participate in the insults, she did stand up with these women and had no objections to their comments.
PEOPLE Magazine asked Parton for her take on the backlash. Her answer will infuriate Fonda and Tomlin.
“They’re Lily and they’re Jane and I’m Dolly. So, they did their thing, I did mine. Oh, we got a little flack from it, but you know, I can’t worry about all that.”
The next thing the 72-year old actress said will make her an outcast in Hollywood.
“I don’t do politics. I’m an entertainer. When I’m out there, if all else fails, I just do a boob joke.”
Amen! We need our entertainers to stick to entertaining and stop meddling in politics where they don’t belong! The American people should be able to just enjoy TV shows and movies without being bombarded with political agendas.
